It’s not because we’re trying to “sell” you a specific home (well, for me anyway), it’s because I know what you why you want specific features in your next home.
I know because I leverage my almost 20 years as an independent consultant and ask you questions that give me fundamental clues why you’re looking for specific things. It’s a skill that I’ve honed over the years…
Here’s a short case study…
Over the last few months I’ve been helping a young couple find a bigger home. They were very specific. They wanted to be in a certain neighbourhood, in a certain price range, it had to have a large front porch, it had to be Victorian architecture, and over time they were planning to renovate it. I showed them a few places, but they weren’t quite right.
The second time we were out looking at houses I realized that they were going to have a baby, but they didn’t tell me. The early stages of pregnancy can be very difficult and I didn’t feel that it was my place to ask too many questions. What I did though, was I change what I was sending them. They didn’t have to tell me what they were looking for I just knew.
I started to send them only homes that had 3 bedrooms, a nice flat backyard, and were near public schools. The architecture didn’t matter, I sent them along anyway. I even changed the geographic area so that only areas with high walk scores were sent to them.
A few weeks later they found “the perfect” home. It wouldn’t have even been on their radar at the beginning of their search, but to them it was “perfect”.
